What the Heck Was That?
Last night should have been an easy game for the Caps. The Bruins did not look all that great, and more importantly, their Goalie, Tim Thomas, looked awful. Rebounds were numerous, and yet the Caps couldn't get it in the net.
The Caps didn't seem to be approaching the game lightly- they came out hard from the start. However, it did seem as though they got a little sloppy with their passes and puck handling. There were passes that seemed to be easily intercepted by the opposition, and even passes that seemed to be to no one. So, they either were not clicking as a team, or they were as sloppy as they looked.
Something else I really noticed last night was Alexander Semin's play. You can tell he is doing all he can to get points on the board, however, it is almost starting to seem as though he is trying too hard. I saw a lot of shake and bake moves by him last night that seemed to lead to nothing but a turned over puck or incomplete pass. I applaud his skating skill, but it seems as though he is doing as much fancy moves as he can to get the defenders off of him, but in doing so he isn't able to effectively set up a play. As I said, it really seems as though he is doing everything he can to get to the net, but he trying way to hard and not allowing himself to think out the play development. I may be completely wrong with this analysis, but that is what it looked like last night.
All I can say is many fans are not happy, even though they came out with a point. Yes we tied it to a 2 goal game, but it should not have been decided in the shootout. The Caps played a better game, and now don't have much to show for it.
By the way, check out The Peerless Prognosticator's Morning After Report- he pretty much sums up the general feeling and response to last nights game.
The bar has definitely been raised and now the Caps need to start following through.
